Never a Bridesmaid, Only a Bride

I'm a bit backwards from most people. I'm a married woman, for nearly 2 years now, who has yet to be a bridesmaid. We had only 1 friend-couple who were married before us (we got engaged at their wedding, actually.)
I don't currently, nor have in recent years, have very close girlfriends. I wouldn't say I had to scrounge for bridesmaids, though. My hubby was in ROTC in college, and went to college with a number of high school friends so he had a huge panal to choose from for his side of our wedding party. I had quite a few girlfriends, and I was happy to have each girl who was in my wedding. (The picture is me, on the far right, with my bridesmaids, at my bachelorette party.) We all have a great history and we had a great time. I've just, kinda drifted. I guess it's the moving. I'm not as tight with anyone anymore. One of my bridesmaids was married last year, as was 1 of my hubby's groomsmen. I have 2 more bridesmaids getting married this spring...and still no bridesmaid dresses hang in my closet. I'm kinda the opposite of Katherine Heigl, I guess. It makes me feel a little sad, a little lonely and left out. I've always really loved my friends, even if we aren't super tight, and I wanna help! My hubby was a groomsman in his buddy's wedding last year and had 2 more guys to stand up for this spring. Ooo, isn't he just everyone's best friend...

Well, I'm finally going to get my chance! My brother-in-law (My hubby's only sibling) proposed to his very long-time girlfriend on Christmas Eve. (they've been together longer than me and my hubby) Even if we aren't best friends, we have known each other for a long time and now, we're family. She doesn't have any sisters, so the closest she's ever going to have is me! They are getting married in November and my hubby is going to be the best man, of course, and even though I'm not gonna be top dog--and I wouldn't expect to be--she has asked me to be 1 of her 3 attendants. She was in our wedding, as a bridesmaid, so now we have the both weddings, family connection.

I had so much fun planning my wedding, and I have so little going on, I really want to do stuff for her wedding now. I love craft projects and I want to make centerpieces and shop for dresses. I'm trying to be patient and stay in the back seat. But I am excited!

It's 2008 and I'm back!

Woohoo!! Man, it's been forever! So much has been going on. I think I wrote last from TX. My hubby finished his training there and finally got his wings!!! We moved again, back to FL. We've spent the last 2 months settling in, as we travelled for holidays. We went to visit my family in ATL for thanksgiving, then, my hubby went away for a 2 week training, and I went back t visit my family for that time. Then, it was Christmas! We were home for about a week over Christmas, then, it was off to Colorado for our newish annual friend new years trip. Last year about 10 of us rented a condo in Palm Coast, FL and spent about 4 days together. This year, 14 of us rented a big mountain cabin and went skiing in Winter Park, CO. We were gone for 6 days this time. Isn't it beautiful? I hadn't been skiing since I was too young to remember, but I think I did pretty well. Sore, but well. We skied for 3 days, which was more than enough for some of my Ft Lauderdale friends. I was well prepared, though. I was hardly cold at all, and it was FREEZING! I think the warmest it was the whole time we were there was 25 degrees. We sat by the fire, went in the outdoor hottub (yes, it was cold enough to make our hair freeze!), drank hot cocoa, went sledding, tried to build a snowman...ya know all the fun, cold-weather stuff I don't get to do here. It was an amazing trip. And best of all, we all got to ring in the new year under 1 big roof together. I'm really hoping we can make this a real tradition, at least with the core of friends who have done it both years now. Some of these people we have been friends with since high school, my hubby, even longer. We are all out of college now, people are getting married and moving around the country. Between these trips, and everyone's weddings, we only get to see each other a couple times a year. Next year, we're hoping to shoot for Hawaii! Fingers crossed, hubby and I will be moving there this summer!!!
Anyway, we're home now. He's started back to work, I've started back to school, part time, and I'm looking for a job. I should be blogging more often, now that things have settled. Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!
